Generally speaking, 22mm pipes are used to deliver a certain amount of water quickly to a tap or radiator, whereas 15mm pipes will increase pressure but reduce volumetric flow. Things like baths require a lot of hot and cold water so why do they usually use 22mm piping, the same applies to immersion tanks whether it's for feed or serving pies. A central heating boiler needs to get the heat to the radiators quickly before it cools down, so the 22mm pipe will extend below the radius and then pass through 15mm to reach the valves, which allows the water to flow to the radiators more quickly but then slows down so that the heat can be fired into the room. Water also expands as it heats up, so larger diameter pipes also provide room for this to happen.
