C28000 Muntz Metal
C28000 Muntz Metal sometimes referred to as Muntz Metal, nominally contains 60% copper, and 40% zinc. The importance of this alloy is its color, which is essentially that of architectural bronze. Alloy 280 metallographic structure is made of a large portion of beta grains, and so it is stronger, harder, and more rigid than brasses of lesser zinc content. C28000 Muntz Metal work hardens rapidly, and so is less adapted to cold work. However, it may be bent or formed readily enough.

C280 Muntz is most commonly found in sheet and plate form. Cu Zn40 is considered a duplex alpha-plus-beta brass and has excellent hot-working properties but is less corrosion resistant than C464 Naval Brass. C28000 Muntz is commonly used in architectural applications, including decorative panels, elevators, trim work and signage. Compared to the yellow tones of C260 Cartridge Brass, C280 Muntz has a warmer appearance that readily takes to polishing. Industrial applications for 280 brass include baffles and tubesheets.
