Pipe identification labels
Pipe identification should be in accordance with BS 1710 and should use pipe ribbons.
Ribbon markings should be applied at 3 meter intervals and identify each gas with a 6 mm size letter.
Self-adhesive plastic labels of approved manufacture may be used for this purpose.
Normally, a 150 mm wide ribbon is sufficient. As a rule, all color-coded ribbons used by the pipeline manufacturer should be removed before marking the system.
Care should be taken to maintain pipe marking during periodic repainting.
The direction of flow should be marked.
