Titanium alloy plates can be divided into thick plates (thickness >25.4mm), medium plates (thickness 4.76~25.4mm) and thin plates (thickness <4.76mm) according to their thickness. At present, the domestic production of titanium and titanium alloy plates is mainly based on the sheet rolling method, and the plates produced by this method can be divided into hot rolled plates and cold rolled plates.
The characteristics of hot rolled sheet are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
First, high production efficiency. Hot rolling at high temperature, low deformation resistance, so the channel under the amount of pressure, production efficiency is significantly improved. Through the use of suitable deformation process, you can obtain medium and thick plates with excellent organizational properties.
Second, the surface is easy to crack. At high temperatures, titanium and titanium alloy plates are susceptible to contamination by harmful gases, forming a brittle surface absorption layer. In the presence of tensile stress on the surface, it is easy to cause surface cracking. This kind of cracking is especially common in titanium alloys with poor plasticity (such as TA6, TA7).
Third, high requirements for processing equipment. Due to the narrow processing temperature window of titanium, the production of hot rolled sheet has high requirements for processing equipment. For example, a larger tonnage of hot rolling mill is required, while also being equipped with high-precision, high-temperature heating furnace and other equipment.

In contrast, the cold rolled sheet of titanium has the following characteristics:
First, significant work hardening. Cold rolling, titanium work hardening is more significant than the general metal, deformation resistance, so the cold rolling process requires greater force.
Second, easy to produce uneven deformation. Cold rolling process, the roll is subjected to a lot of pressure, easy to produce a large elastic deformation, and wear and tear fast. This may lead to uneven deformation of the plate, resulting in plate cracking edge and uneven size.
Third, high requirements for surface quality. In order to obtain high surface quality requirements of the product, cold rolled sheet needs to use high finish rolls and good surface condition of the slab. At the same time, it is also necessary to use good lubrication conditions and maintain a good sanitary environment.
In recent years, the cold rolling technology of titanium plates has made significant progress, mainly in the improvement of plate surface treatment technology. Through the use of sanding machine for cold rolled plate surface overall treatment, can make the plate surface more flat, smooth and clean, to meet the needs of customers with higher quality requirements.
