Copper pipe is often used as a water pipe instead of steel pipe. It is available in hardened tempered and softened tempered types. Both tempers are available in 20-foot straight lengths. Softened tempered copper pipe is also available in 1.25-inch diameter coils of 30, 45, and 60 feet. This pipe is connected by welding the ends to specific fittings using a welding gun and solder or brazing alloy. Due to its soft nature, the pipe is easy to bend and change direction, thus reducing the number of fittings and labor required. This pipe is often used to replace lead pipe to connect the water main into the building.
