Two conditions determine the control of defects in titanium plate materials!

Mar 03, 2023

Like all other materials, titanium plates cannot guarantee the detection of all defects in titanium materials using non-destructive testing methods, as some defects may be too small and some defects may not be detected using non-destructive testing techniques. Therefore, it is necessary to limit the allowable limit of defects for titanium plate components. To control defects within the allowable limit range, the following two conditions must be met: firstly, low stress during operation; Next is the best metallographic structure.

The optimal metallographic structure is not sensitive to small cracks or defects, in order to prevent further propagation of these small cracks and defects in titanium plates. The methods of passivating the crack tip, removing the crack from the maximum stress plane, and causing crack segmentation can be used to prevent the propagation of larger cracks. These measures can reduce and stabilize the fatigue crack growth rate, and can also improve the fracture toughness.
