What is H62 brass?
H62 brass is a high-quality copper-zinc alloy. It contains 62% copper and 38% zinc. H62 brass has great corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and workability. That's why people use it in all kinds of industrial applications.
Performance Characteristics of H62 Brass Strip
Excellent Mechanical Properties
H62 brass strip exhibits high strength and hardness while maintaining good ductility, making it suitable for cold-working processes such as stamping and bending. Its tensile strength typically ranges from 300 to 400 MPa, with an elongation of over 15%, enabling widespread applications in electronic appliances, hardware products, and other fields.
Good Electrical and Thermal Conductivity
Owing to the high electrical and thermal conductivity of copper, H62 brass strip performs exceptionally well in heat dissipation components and conductive connectors. Although the addition of zinc slightly reduces electrical conductivity, H62 achieves an optimal balance between cost and performance compared to pure copper.
Corrosion Resistance and Limitations
H62 brass strip demonstrates good corrosion resistance in dry environments and neutral media. However, it may undergo dezincification corrosion in humid or chlorine-containing environments. Therefore, in marine or chemical applications, surface coatings or alloying treatments are required to enhance its corrosion resistance.
Machinability and Adaptability
H62 brass strip is easy to weld, braze, and machine. It exhibits significant cold-working hardening effects, and its plasticity can be restored through annealing processes, making it suitable for manufacturing complex-shaped components.

FAQ
What is the difference between H65 and H62 brass? H62 brass, with slightly lower copper content, is versatile and widely used in plumbing, electrical components, and hardware. In contrast, H65 brass boasts higher tensile strength, better corrosion resistance, and superior machinability, making it ideal for decorative items, musical instruments, and radiator cores.
What is the difference between H59 and H62 brass? Their primary differences lie in their composition; H59 contains slightly less copper, making it more malleable but less corrosion-resistant than H62, which contains higher levels of copper for increased durability and environmental resistance.
What is H62? H62 is a brass-zinc alloy containing 60.5–63.5% brass. It has good mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. Although cost-effective, it is susceptible to dezincification corrosion, making it suitable mainly for general structural parts.
What is the tensile strength of H62 brass? Tensile strength ≥ 330 MPa, elongation ≥ 10% (in the hard state), excellent cold/hot working performance. Suitable for processes such as stamping, drawing, forging, etc.
Is H62 brass machinability? Yes, H62 brass has good machinability, but it is not in the top tier of "free-machining" brasses. Its rating is typically around 40% on the industry-standard scale where free-cutting brass C36000 (CZ121/Alloy 360) is rated at 100%.
What is H62 brass strip used for? H62 brass strip is widely used in architectural decoration, electrical terminals, heat exchangers, hardware components, and ammunition casings due to its good strength, formability, and corrosion resistance.
