C11000 Copper Prices October 19, 2026: LME Holds Above $14,500/Tonne For The Fourth Week

Oct 20, 2026

C11000 is not getting any cheaper. LME 3-month copper closed the week of October 19 at $14,575/tonne ($6.61/lb), the fourth consecutive weekly print above $14,500/tonne and a 12-week high. US cathode premium is holding flat at $0.085/lb, but a refiner asking for $0.090 was reported mid-week - that single ask is the floor under the fabrication premium. The downstream signal is direct: C11000 plate, sheet and busbar quotes coming back this week carry a 1.5–3% fabrication-premium pass-through on top of LME, and lead times on thin-gauge strip have extended by two weeks since late September. If you have a Q4 volume on C11000 plate, busbar, strip or tube, this is the week to lock the mill slot - the next fabrication premium round lands in four to six weeks.

LME Held Above $14,500 For The Fourth Week - The Fabrication Premium Round Is Underway

The problem is straightforward. LME 3-month copper has closed higher four weeks in a row. The cumulative move from the late-September print of $14,070/tonne is now +$505/tonne, roughly +3.6%. The four-week run has been characterised by the same physical signal - on-warrant stock has drawn by 5,400 tonnes since the holiday, and cancelled-warrant ratio is now 51.3%, the highest reading of the past three months. That ratio is the cleanest leading indicator for fabrication premium: when buyers pull metal from LME warehouses faster than the warrants are re-issued, mills and cathode refiners respond by widening their fabrication premium on the next quote cycle.

The cause is downstream restock, not speculative demand. Asian PCB shops, European busbar fabricators and US electrical-equipment OEMs have all returned from the holiday with the same playbook - restock inventory that was deliberately run down in July and August to dodge the late-Q3 downtrend. They are not buying spot contracts on optionality; they are rebuilding working stocks. That structural restock sets the floor under the fabrication premium for at least the next two months.

What it means for your quote is unambiguous. The C11000 plate, sheet and busbar mills in the chain printed new quotes this week carrying a 1.5–3% fabrication-premium pass-through on top of LME. The cost consequence in dollar terms: a $50,000 USD/lot on C11000 1/4″ plate that quoted at $8.85/lb three weeks ago now comes back at $9.05/lb - that is +$10,000 USD on the order, before any tolerance or volume adjustment. If you have a Q4 commitment on C11000 plate, busbar or strip, lock the mill slot this week; the next fabrication-premium round lands in four to six weeks when the current restock cycle is genuinely complete.

Three Reads From This Week For C11000 Buyers

Three moves in the data are worth flagging before you set the Q4 contracting calendar.

LME copper is on a 12-week high. The +0.66% weekly print is the smallest leg of a four-week run. C11000 plate, sheet and busbar quotes track LME with a 4–6 week pass-through lag - meaning the fabrication-premium round currently being applied reflects moves already in the LME tape, not this week's print. The risk is that the next 4-week run continues; the corresponding cost on a Q4 plate order is now closer to +6% than +3%.

US cathode premium is structurally flattening, but a single refiner has asked for $0.090/lb mid-week. That is the floor under the next round. If your C11000 supply contract is tied to a cathode-indexed basis, ask for written confirmation whether the premium resets against current spot or against a stock your supplier already holds. A reset clause costs you nothing if copper turns back down and saves you $0.005–0.015/lb if it does not.

Thin-gauge C11000 strip is the tightest line. Strip ≤ 0.020″ published lead times have extended by two weeks since late September, and the printed mill quote on strip is +$0.18/lb on the week - the largest single-product move in the snapshot. If your part uses thin strip with tight tolerances, book the mill slot this week; the indicative lead time is now 8–10 weeks versus 6–8 weeks at the start of Q4.

Premiums reflect October 16 spot assessments and current cathode premium. Premiums vary by form and temper; ranges shown are typical for the most-traded product / temper combinations.

Machining Notes For C11000 - Free-Machining, But With Edge Cases

C11000 is rated at 100% on the free-machining copper scale (C360 brass is 100%, C11000 is also at the top of the scale for copper at 0.7× baseline cycle time versus mild steel). Three things still bite:

Built-up edge on soft temper. C11000 soft-anneal (O60 / O50) is gummy - use sharp tooling with high rake and high cutting speed. Built-up edge is the #1 cause of poor surface finish on C11000 sheet and strip machining.

Chip control on drawn temper. Hard temper (H04 / H80) gives long, springy chips. Specify chip-breaker tooling and chip conveyors; otherwise the chips tangle and stop the cycle.

Galvanic contamination from coolant. C11000 corrodes galvanically in coolant that has dissolved iron; coolant chemistry and clean-tank discipline are non-optional on production runs.

What To Do This Week, By C11000 Product Form

Six product-line moves that the data is pointing to, in priority order.

C11000 plate (ASTM B152 / B370). Fabrication premium applied this week. Lock plate stock for November–December inside the next ten trading days. The +0.66% LME week plus +$0.10/lb fabrication-premium add to roughly +1.7% on a typical Q4 plate quote versus the late-September baseline.

C11000 busbar (ASTM B187). Lead times extended by one week at major mills; the +$0.13/lb fabrication-premium round is already in the printed mill quote. If your busbar order includes ≥ 1/2″ thicknesses or ≥ 4″ widths, book the mill slot this week and ask for written delivery confirmation.

C11000 thin-gauge strip (ASTM B152 / B888, ≤ 0.020″). This is the tightest line in the snapshot (+$0.18/lb on the week, lead time +2 weeks since Sept 28). If your part uses thin C11000 strip with tight tolerances, lock this week. The next fabrication-premium round lands inside the next four to six weeks.

C11000 sheet (ASTM B152, 16–48 oz). Soft mill backlog applied. Re-quote C11000 sheet this week; the printed quote includes the new fabrication premium. For longer Q4 commitment, ask for cathode-premium reset clause.

C11000 wire (ASTM B1 / B2 / B3). Hard-drawn wire has the cleanest premium pass-through. Lock wire diameter and temper now if delivery into November or December matters; the continuous-cast rod feedstock is tightest supply-side.

C11000 tube (ASTM B75 / B280). Aerospace pulled +$0.15/lb on the week. If your tube order feeds aerospace or electronics, lock delivery slot and accept that the printed quote is the floor. For plumbing/HVAC tube (B88 / B280), the fabrication premium is smaller and the cycle is easier - re-quote is optional.

What Would Change The View

Two signals to watch over the next two weeks.

If LME 3-month copper trades above $15,000/tonne, the four-week trend has broken out of the consolidation range. C11000 plate, sheet, busbar and strip quotes move on top of that, with the next fabrication-premium round adding another 1.5–3%. The recommendation on plate and strip shifts from "lock inside ten trading days" to "lock today"; budget a 5–7% premium over the late-September baseline.

If US cathode premium resets to $0.090/lb or wider, all cathode-indexed C11000 supply contracts reset higher simultaneously. For buyers tied to a flat cathode premium in their 2026 supply agreement, that single data point can move your effective cost by $0.005–0.015/lb per order - confirm whether your contract has a reset clause before November contracting.
