What Are The Uses Of High-strength Titanium Alloy Rods?

Mar 01, 2023

Titanium alloy rods have advantages such as high strength, low density, good mechanical properties, good toughness, and corrosion resistance. In addition, titanium alloy bars have poor process performance and are difficult to cut. They are easy to absorb impurities such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon during hot working, with poor wear resistance and complex production process. The industrial production of titanium began in 1948. To meet the needs of the development of the aviation industry, the titanium industry is developing at an average annual rate of around 8%. At present, all titanium alloy rod manufacturers have an annual production capacity of over 40000 tons of processed materials, and there are nearly 30 titanium alloy rod brands. The widely used titanium alloy rods include Ti-6Al-4V (TC4), Ti-5Al-2.5Sn (TA7), and industrial pure titanium (TA1, TA2, and TA3).

(1) Titanium alloy rod with high strength

The density of titanium alloy can generally be analyzed at around 4.5g/cm3, which is only 60% of steel. The strength of pure titanium is only close to that of ordinary steel in our enterprise. Some problems have high strength, and titanium alloy exceeds the strength of many related research alloy structural steel. Therefore, the specific strength (strength/density) of titanium alloy is much higher than that of other metal industrial structural design materials, which can manufacture parts with high working strength, good rigidity, and light weight. At present, traditional Chinese titanium alloys are mainly used for the engine work of Chinese aircraft, including components, frames, skins, fasteners, and landing gears

(2) High thermal strength of titanium alloy rods

The usage temperature is several degrees higher than that of aluminum alloy, which can maintain the required strength at medium temperature. It can work for a long time at 450 ° C to 500 ° C, and the specific strength is still very high within the range of 150 ° C to 500 ° C. The specific strength of aluminum alloy decreases at 150 ° C, the working temperature of titanium alloy can reach 500 ° C, and the working temperature of aluminum alloy is below 200 ° C.

(3) Titanium alloy rods have good corrosion resistance

Titanium alloy has significantly better corrosion resistance than stainless steel in humid atmospheres and seawater, and has good corrosion resistance to alkali, chlorine, chlorine, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and other factors. However, the corrosion resistance of titanium to reducing oxygen and chromate medium is poor.

(4) Titanium alloy bars have good low-temperature performance

The mechanical properties of titanium alloys can be maintained at low and ultra-low temperatures. Titanium alloys with excellent low-temperature performance and extremely low gap design elements, such as TA7, can maintain a certain degree of plasticity in a company at -253 ℃. Therefore, the development of titanium alloys is also an important material for low-temperature product structures.
