C11040, C10200 and C11000 Copper Strip Procurement Guide

Oct 10, 2026

What is UNS C11040 ETP Copper?

UNS C11040 is the dedicated designation for electrolytic tough-pitch (ETP) copper rod drawing stock produced by continuous casting to ASTM B49. It contains a minimum of 99.90% copper with controlled oxygen content (typically 100–650 ppm), which gives it the combination of drawability and conductivity that wire mills require.

Typical conductivity is 100–101% IACS, which makes C11040 rod the standard feedstock for fine wire drawing down to 0.05 mm and finer. The most common delivery size is 8 mm continuous-cast rod in coil, with other diameters available on request.

What is UNS C10200 Oxygen-Free Copper Strip?

UNS C10200 is an oxygen-free (OF) copper with a minimum of 99.95% copper and oxygen content below 10 ppm. Because it contains virtually no oxygen, it can be brazed or welded in hydrogen atmospheres without embrittlement - a key advantage in sealed electrical assemblies.

Supplied to ASTM B187 (bus bar, rod and shapes) and ASTM B152 (sheet and strip), C10200 is widely specified for electrical conductor manufacturing, transformer and switchgear components, and premium earthing strip where maximum reliability is required. Standard earthing strip section 25 mm × 3 mm is a stock size, delivered in pancake coils of 45–70 kg or palletized coils up to 1 MT.

What is UNS C11000 ETP Copper Strip?

UNS C11000 is the general-purpose ETP copper - the most commonly specified copper grade worldwide, with a minimum of 99.90% copper and conductivity of at least 100% IACS. It offers the best cost-to-conductivity ratio for the majority of electrical and grounding applications.

C11000 strip to ASTM B152 covers thicknesses from 0.05 mm foil to 12 mm heavy strip, including the 25 mm × 3 mm earthing strip section. It is suitable for bus bar, panel board, cable lugs, and general electrical conductor manufacturing.

C11040 vs C10200 vs C11000 - How to Choose

All three grades are high-conductivity coppers, but they are optimized for different delivery forms and process routes. The table below shows the practical differences specifiers should weigh.

Best suited for Fine wire drawing, magnet wire Hydrogen-atmosphere brazing, premium conductors, electronics General electrical conductor manufacturing, earthing, bus bar
Relative cost Standard ETP pricing Premium over ETP Most economical

For fine wire drawing, C11040 rod to ASTM B49 is the established feedstock - its continuous-cast structure and spiral elongation performance support stable drawing to ultra-fine sizes. When hydrogen brazing or vacuum applications are involved, many project teams instead specify C10200 oxygen-free copper, since ETP grades can embrittle in hydrogen.

For earthing strip and general conductors, C11000 ETP delivers identical conductivity at the lowest cost, while C10200 is chosen where oxygen-free purity is specified or where joints will be brazed. Both are available in the standard 25 mm × 3 mm section.

Quality Assurance, Certification and Delivery Capability

Standards Compliance

Every order is produced and inspected against the governing standard for the product form: ASTM B49 for ETP rod, ASTM B187 for bus bar and rod, ASTM B152 for strip and sheet, and ASTM B 115-00 for copper cathodes. Copper cathodes can also be supplied to BS EN 1978:1998 and NBR 5026-2001 where a project requires those references.

Mill Test Certificates - EN 10204 Type 3.1

C11000 Mill Test Certificates

Each production lot ships with an EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certificate issued by our inspection department, covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, conductivity and dimensional results traceable to the heat number. Certificates are provided in paper form with the documents and as scanned PDF by email before shipment.

Purity and Conductivity Guarantee

C11000 Electrical Conductivity Testing

Guaranteed minimums: 99.90% copper for C11000 / C11040 ETP grades, 99.95% for C10200 oxygen-free copper, and 99.99% for Grade A cathodes. Conductivity is verified per lot at 100–101% IACS. Independent third-party verification is available on request.

Third-Party Inspection

We accept in-mill inspection by any client-nominated agency - SGS, BV, TÜV, Intertek or others - covering witness testing, pre-shipment visual and dimensional checks, and container loading supervision. Inspection slots are arranged at the buyer's convenience during production.

FAQ

Q: Which grade is best for fine wire drawing - C11040 or C10200?

A: C11040 rod to ASTM B49 is the standard feedstock for fine wire drawing, offering 100–101% IACS conductivity and proven drawability in 8 mm coil. C10200 is preferred when the finished conductor will be brazed in hydrogen or requires oxygen-free purity.

Q: Can you supply both C10200 (ASTM B187) and ETP C11000 earthing strip in 25 mm × 3 mm?

A: Yes. Both grades are available in the standard 25 mm × 3 mm earthing strip section, in pancake coils of 45–70 kg or 1 MT pallets, with full dimensional compliance to ASTM B152 / B187.

Q: Do C11000 and C10200 products come with mill test certificates?

A: Every lot ships with an EN 10204 Type 3.1 certificate covering chemistry, mechanical properties, conductivity and dimensions, traceable to heat number.

Q: Do you also supply copper cathodes to ASTM B 115-00?

A: Yes. Grade A copper cathodes to ASTM B 115-00, BS EN 1978:1998 and NBR 5026-2001 are supplied in standard 990 × 970 mm sheets, thickness 5–25 mm, with ≥ 100% IACS conductivity and spiral length test results.

Q: What inspection and testing support electrical conductor manufacturing orders?

A: Conductivity measurement, tensile and elongation testing, spiral elongation testing for rod, and full dimensional inspection are performed per lot. Third-party inspection by SGS, BV or TÜV is accepted on request.

Q: What are typical minimum quantities and lead times?

A: Orders of 25 MT and above per item are routine, including combined rod / strip / cathode programs. Standard lead time is 2–4 weeks, with seaworthy export packing and FCL delivery to major ports worldwide.
