In the design and manufacturing process of an airplane, the choice of materials is crucial, especially in the wing area which is subjected to extreme temperatures and weight. The leading edge part of an airplane wing, during flight, the temperature can rise sharply to 538°C due to friction with high-speed airflow. This extreme high-temperature environment puts high demands on the heat resistance of materials. Conventional aluminum alloys, although lightweight and strong, are unable to maintain their structural integrity and performance at such high temperatures, and therefore cannot be used in this area.

On the other hand, although FeNi-based alloys are able to withstand high temperatures to a certain extent, their higher density leads to an increase in overall weight, which adversely affects the fuel efficiency and performance of the aircraft. Therefore, based on a comprehensive consideration of heat resistance, lightness and strength, titanium alloys have become an ideal choice for wing leading edge materials. In particular, Ti6Al-4V alloy has become the material of choice for aircraft wing leading edges due to its excellent heat resistance, high strength and relatively light weight.
In addition, a set of fixture mechanisms is required to secure the wing to the support structure during the manufacturing process of the wing. These fixtures not only need to carry the weight of the wing, but also need to maintain a high degree of accuracy during the manufacturing and assembly process. Similarly, due to the excellent strength and corrosion resistance of titanium alloys, Ti6Al4V alloy is widely used in the manufacture of these jigs. This not only ensures the durability and precision of the jigs, but also helps to improve the manufacturing quality and reliability of the entire wing.
In summary, titanium alloys, especially Ti6Al-4V alloy, play a key role in the manufacture of airplane wings. They not only meet the demand for high-temperature and lightweight materials for the leading edge of the wing, but also improve the durability and manufacturing accuracy of the fixture, providing a strong guarantee for the overall performance and safety of the airplane.
