Methods And Procedures For Assessing The Quality Of Copper Tubing

Aug 18, 2025

As a commonly used component in industrial production, the quality of copper tubing can be assessed using three methods.

1: Visual Inspection

The quality of copper tubing can be determined through visual inspection. First, examine the color of the copper tubing, which is generally categorized into purple copper and yellow copper. Under normal circumstances, the color of copper tubing should be uniform. For example, purple copper tubing typically has a reddish hue, which generally indicates good quality. If there are color impurities or even visible impurities, it can be concluded that the copper contains impurities and is of inferior quality.

2. Testing

High-quality copper tubing is made of pure copper. Copper has the characteristic of good ductility. High-quality copper tubing will have a dark line, which does not indicate a defect in quality but rather indicates excellent ductility.

When selecting copper tubing, you can also scratch the surface. If the inner and outer walls are the same, it indicates that the overall quality of the copper tubing is good. If the inner and outer walls are noticeably different, be cautious, as the copper may contain some iron.

3: Tensile Testing

After the appearance and simple tests are passed, the final inspection process is tensile testing. Processed copper tubing is primarily divided into three types: hard, semi-hard, and soft. Different forms exhibit varying degrees of flexibility. Simply apply slight force to stretch the copper. High-quality copper tubes are slightly easier to deform. Conversely, if they are very hard or difficult to deform, it can generally be concluded that the quality of the copper tube is subpar.

Copper Tube Welding - Copper Tube Welding Procedure:

Tool Preparation: Welding torch, acetylene cylinder, oxygen cylinder, nitrogen cylinder. Procedure: Check if the oxygen cylinder and acetylene cylinder have sufficient supply. Weld according to the drawing specifications. When welding an electromagnetic valve, remove the coil to prevent damage and monitor its flow. When welding other components such as liquid level sensors, expansion valves, or check valves, be mindful of thermal damage during welding. If necessary, remove detachable parts and wrap the welded valve body with a damp cloth. During welding, pass low-speed nitrogen through the welded tube to prevent oxidation. After welding, cool the pipe with dry nitrogen and clean any oxides and weld slag from the pipe.

Copper tube welding may seem like a simple task, but it requires mastering many methods and techniques, as well as strong technical skills. Copper tube welding requires professional skill training to understand the welding process and related precautions. This expertise makes copper tube welding possible and helps avoid issues during the welding process.
