Data from Chile's National Copper Commission (Cochilco) showed that production at Chile's largest copper mine was divided in September, with the National Copper Company (Codelco) performing poorly.
Codelco's production in September was 116,700 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5.3%. However, output at the Escondida copper mine controlled by BHP Billiton surged 25.5%, and output at Collahuasi, a joint venture between Glencore and Anglo American, increased 1.3%.
The world's largest copper producer has been facing operational problems and high debt, with output falling to a 25-year low last year.
Cochilco data shows that in September, Chilean copper production was 444,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. In the first three quarters, Chile's copper production totaled 3.8268 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.9%.
