C44400 is a type of copper alloy known as "Naval Brass" or "Arsenical Brass." It is composed primarily of copper (Cu) with small amounts of zinc (Zn), tin (Sn), and arsenic (As). C44400 copper rod is produced through a series of manufacturing processes. Here is an overview of the typical process involved in producing C44400 copper rod:
Raw Material Selection: The process begins with the selection of high-quality copper, zinc, tin, and arsenic raw materials. These materials should meet the required specifications and standards for C44400 alloy composition.
Melting and Alloying: The selected copper, zinc, tin, and arsenic materials are melted in a furnace, typically using electric induction or gas-fired furnaces. The melted copper is then alloyed with the appropriate amounts of zinc, tin, and arsenic to achieve the desired composition of C44400 alloy.
Continuous Casting: Once the desired alloy composition is achieved, the molten metal is transferred to a continuous casting machine. In this process, the molten metal is poured into a graphite mold, where it solidifies and forms a continuous cast bar or billet. The continuous casting method ensures consistent quality and size of the copper rod.
Hot Rolling: The continuous cast bar is then subjected to hot rolling. The bar is heated and passed through a series of rolling mills, which reduce its diameter and increase its length. The hot rolling process refines the grain structure and further shapes the copper rod to the desired dimensions.
Annealing: After hot rolling, the copper rod may undergo an annealing process. Annealing involves heating the rod to a specific temperature and then slowly cooling it. This process relieves internal stresses, improves the rod's mechanical properties, and enhances its machinability.
Cold Drawing: The hot-rolled and annealed copper rod may undergo cold drawing to further reduce its diameter and improve its surface finish. The rod is pulled through a series of dies, progressively reducing its size while increasing its length. Cold drawing improves dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and mechanical properties.
Cutting and Packaging: The cold-drawn copper rod is cut into desired lengths and packaged for distribution or further processing. The rod may be cut into standard lengths or customized according to customer requirements.
