PET copper foil is a new type of composite copper foil material. It combines the conductive properties of traditional copper foil with the flexibility and thinness of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film. It offers unique application value in a wide range of fields and represents a major trend in the future of copper foil.
PET copper foil consists of a three-layer structure: a PET film in the middle and copper layers attached to each side using a special process. This structure retains copper's excellent conductivity while leveraging PET's physical properties, resulting in superior flexibility and mechanical strength.
Compared to traditional pure copper foil, PET copper foil is thinner and lighter while maintaining performance, contributing to the miniaturization and lightweighting of electronic devices.
Traditional copper foil is composed of pure copper, while PET copper foil utilizes a "copper-polymer material-copper" sandwich structure. The PET polymer material in the middle is relatively low-cost and reduces copper usage while maintaining performance. It's estimated that PET copper foil can reduce the amount of metallic copper used by approximately two-thirds compared to traditional copper foil.
Because PET copper foil uses a relatively small amount of copper, its cost is less affected by copper price fluctuations. When copper prices rise, the cost of traditional copper foil increases significantly, while the cost of PET copper foil increases relatively less. This makes PET copper foil more cost-stable and competitive in a market characterized by volatile copper prices!




Two Application Areas of PET Copper Foil
1. Lithium-ion Batteries
Power Batteries: In new energy vehicle power batteries, PET copper foil can serve as the negative electrode current collector. Its lightweight and thin nature helps increase the battery's energy density, enabling vehicles to achieve a longer driving range with the same battery pack volume and weight.
Additionally, PET copper foil's excellent flexibility allows it to adapt to the battery's volume changes during charging and discharging, reducing the risk of copper foil cracking due to battery expansion and contraction, thereby extending the battery's lifespan.
Energy Storage Batteries: Energy storage systems have high requirements for battery energy density, safety, and cost. The use of PET copper foil can reduce battery costs and increase energy density, making it more competitive in large-scale energy storage applications, such as grid storage and distributed energy storage, helping to improve the overall performance and economics of energy storage systems.
Consumer Electronic Batteries: Using PET copper foil as the negative electrode current collector in batteries for consumer electronics like smartphones, tablets, and laptops can increase battery capacity within limited space, meeting consumer demand for long-lasting battery life while also contributing to thinner and lighter designs.
2. Printed Circuit Boards:
Flexible Printed Circuit Boards: PET copper foil's flexibility and foldability make it an ideal material for flexible printed circuit boards (FPCs). FPCs are widely used in various electronic devices that require bending or folding, such as wearables and foldable phones. They meet these devices' requirements for miniaturization, high performance, and high reliability, enabling more complex circuit designs and more compact internal structures.
Rigid-Flex PCBs: Rigid-Flex PCBs are a type of printed circuit board that combines both rigidity and flexibility. PET copper foil can be used in the flexible portion of the board, enabling electrical connections and signal transmission between different rigid regions. This allows the board to adapt to complex shapes and spatial constraints, improving the overall performance and reliability of electronic devices.
